What to see in Amalfi

A real pearl on the Mediterranean, the city of Amalfi combines the natural beauty of the coast, to which it gives its name, to various elements that enrich its beauty. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, Amalfi is a must-see destination for a unique experience of good food and breathtaking views.

Cathedral of Sant’Andrea

The Piazza del Duomo in Amalfi is a must for all visitors. The square is dominated by the great Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, whose majesty can already be seen from the wide staircase leading to its entrance. The style of the Cathedral combines the North African influence typical of Southern Italian art with a definitely unique and exceptional style. In addition to the church, it is also possible to visit the Cloister of Paradise and the Basilica of the Crucifix.

The paper mills: where the unmistakable Amalfi paper is born

Amalfi is a city known to the world also for one of its historical excellence: paper. Recently back in vogue, especially in the wedding sector, Amalfi paper is unique in its kind and boasts a long tradition that has remained practically unchanged until today. You can learn about the history of the Amalfi carteries at the Paper Museum, where the ancient machines with which the splendid Amalfi paper were handcrafted are exhibited

The Arsenal of Amalfi

Amalfi owes much of its cultural heritage to its period of maximum magnitude: between the 9th and 12th, Amalfi was the largest of the known maritime republics on the Italian peninsula. The city was among the first to be able to exploit the outlet on the Mediterranean as a strategic trade route to create important alliances. In this period the Amalfi fleet could count on a large number of boats. Today it is still possible to admire this grandeur by visiting the remains of the old Arsenal.

Vallone delle Ferriere

In addition to the artistic heritage, Amalfi boasts incredible coves. A few kilometers from the city center is the Vallone delle Ferriere, a place where nature offers a wonderful spectacle. Protected from the cold northern winds, this valley is rich in centuries-old trees and can be visited through two paths through which you can admire the waterways and the pristine flora.
